HomeWire

Your home network, one tap away.

HomeWire is a VPN remote for your own home network. It works with WireGuard servers that you run yourself.

Import the configuration your server gave you, then connect from the app, the Home Screen, the Lock Screen, Control Center or your Apple Watch. Reach your home names and devices from anywhere, without opening a VPN app each time.

FreeNo accountsNo tracking

For iPhone and iPad, with an Apple Watch app. Needs iOS 26.

How it works

You run the server. HomeWire connects.

  1. You run the server

A router, firewall or small computer at home runs a WireGuard server. HomeWire does not provide one and never talks to it except through the tunnel.

  2. Import its configuration

The server produces a client configuration for this iPhone or iPad. Scan its QR code, open the file or paste the text, check the review screen and save.

  3. HomeWire connects

Connect from the app, a widget, Control Center or the watch. Your key stays in this device's keychain and your traffic goes straight to your own server.

HomeWire never manages your server, edits its peers or creates keys on it.

Features

One thing, done properly.

Split and Full modes

Split reaches your home subnets and home names and is safe to leave on all day. Full sends everything through home for hotel and airport Wi-Fi, and goes back to Split when you disconnect.

Import by QR, file or text

Scan the QR code your server shows, open the .conf file, or paste its text. HomeWire reads the endpoint, DNS and home subnets out of it and shows you the result to check before saving.

Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets

See the state of a connection and connect or disconnect from the Home Screen, and glance at it on the Lock Screen.

Control Center control

Turn the active connection on or off from Control Center, without opening the app.

Live Activity and Dynamic Island

While a tunnel is up or coming up, its state and how long it has been connected stay on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

Apple Watch app

Check the tunnel and connect or disconnect from your wrist, with watch face complications and a Smart Stack card for the state.

Several connections

Keep a connection for each place or server you use, name them as you like, and switch from the sidebar or the switcher.

Diagnostics that stay on your device

Turn on an optional activity log to find out why a tunnel will not come up. It stays on the device unless you export it, and it holds no keys, addresses or server names.

Two modes

Safe to leave on, or everything through home.

Split

Home subnets and home names only

Only traffic for your home network goes through the tunnel, so the rest of your phone carries on as normal. It is the default and is safe to leave on all day.

Full

All traffic through home

For hotel and airport Wi-Fi. It is a one-time session: disconnecting puts that connection back on Split, so Full can never leak into normal use. See the IPv6 note in the questions below.

Privacy

It stays on your device.

No accounts, no tracking

HomeWire has no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party code. There is no HomeWire server for anything to be sent to.

Keys stay in the keychain

Your WireGuard key is stored in this device's keychain, shared only between the app, its widgets and its own VPN component, and it is not synced to iCloud Keychain.

Your server sees your traffic, we do not

Your traffic goes from your device to the server you chose. We cannot see it, and we do not sell, use or disclose any data to third parties for any purpose.

Questions

Questions and answers

I do not have a server. Can I still use HomeWire?

HomeWire is a remote, not a VPN service: it connects to a WireGuard server that you or someone you know runs, for example on a router, a firewall or a small computer at home. It does not provide servers of its own. If you have not got one yet, the app has an "I do not have a server" screen that explains what to set up, with a worked example for UniFi, and links to the WireGuard project's own documentation.

Is HomeWire really free?

Yes. HomeWire is free, forever. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no ads.

Does HomeWire collect any data?

No. There are no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party code in the app, and it has no server of its own to send anything to. The only network traffic it causes is the VPN connection to your own server. The privacy policy has the detail.

What is the difference between Split and Full?

Split sends only traffic for your home subnets and home names through the tunnel, and is safe to leave on all day. Full sends all traffic through your home connection, which is useful on hotel or airport Wi-Fi. Full is a one-time session: when you disconnect, that connection goes back to Split.

Does Full mode carry IPv6 traffic?

Only if your configuration gives the tunnel an IPv6 address. In Full mode HomeWire asks iOS to route all IPv4 and IPv6 traffic through the tunnel, but it sets up the IPv6 side only when the interface in your WireGuard configuration has an IPv6 address. If it has only an IPv4 address, IPv6 traffic is not carried by the tunnel and goes out over whatever network you are on. Give the client an IPv6 address on your server if that matters to you.

What can I import?

The client configuration your server produced: a .conf file, its text pasted in, or its QR code scanned with the camera. You review what HomeWire read before anything is saved. HomeWire only uses what is in the file, and adds no network settings of its own.

Can I keep more than one connection?

Yes. You can save several named connections and switch between them. iOS runs one tunnel at a time, so only one is connected at once.

Does it work with the Apple Watch?

There is an Apple Watch app that shows whether the tunnel is up and has a Connect and Disconnect button. The tunnel itself runs on your iPhone, so the watch needs the phone nearby to be useful. There are also watch face complications and a Smart Stack card that show the state.

How do I remove the VPN profile?

In HomeWire, remove the connection: the app disconnects it first, then deletes its VPN profile and its key from the device. You can also remove it in iOS: Settings, General, VPN & Device Management, VPN, tap the information button next to HomeWire and choose Delete VPN. Deleting the app removes its settings and log; remove each connection first if you also want its key gone from the keychain.
