Privacy Policy
The short version. HomeWire collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party code in the app, and no HomeWire server. The app's only network traffic is the VPN connection to the server you name. We do not sell, use or disclose to third parties any data for any purpose.
1. Who we are
HomeWire is published by ITCRC LTD., a company registered in England and Wales (company number 08867844), registered address Unit 10, 80 Lytham Road, Fulwood, Preston, PR2 3AQ, United Kingdom ("ITCRC", "we", "us"). ITCRC LTD. is the data controller for anything described in this policy. You can contact us about it at support@homewire.app.
This policy covers the HomeWire app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and this website, homewire.app.
2. What we collect
Nothing. The app does not send any data to us or to anyone else. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no third-party SDKs, and we run no server that it talks to. We cannot see your connections, your servers, your traffic or how you use the app.
3. Our commitment to you
We do not sell, use or disclose to third parties any data for any purpose. This is the commitment Apple requires of VPN apps, and it is how HomeWire works: there is no data for us to sell, use or disclose.
4. What is stored on your device
- Your connection settings (name, server endpoint, DNS, home subnets, mode and the public details from the configuration you imported) are stored in HomeWire's storage on your device, shared only between the app and its own widgets and VPN component. The watch app receives only status from the phone.
- Your private key and any preshared key are stored in the device keychain, set to be available only on this device after its first unlock. They are not synced to iCloud Keychain and do not move to another device.
- An activity log, only if you turn on "Keep an activity log" in Options. It records starts, stops, whether the server answered and how long it took, and any failure. It keeps at most the last 500 entries. It contains no keys, no addresses and no server names, and it stays on the device unless you choose to export it from Diagnostics.
- The camera is used only to read a configuration QR code when you choose to scan one. No image is stored.
- Widgets, Control Center, the Live Activity and the Apple Watch show the status of your connection. They get it from HomeWire on your own devices, not from us.
Like any app, HomeWire's stored files may be included when you back up your device with iCloud or a computer, under your own Apple account and settings. We have no access to those backups.
5. What leaves your device
- VPN traffic. When you connect, your traffic goes through an encrypted tunnel to the server named in your configuration, and nowhere else.
- A diagnostics export, only if you tap export and choose where to send it. The exported file is written temporarily on the device and removed when you leave the screen.
- Links you tap. The "I do not have a server" screen links to the WireGuard project's website. If you open a link, it opens in your browser and that website's own policy applies.
6. Your server
The server you connect to is run by you or by someone you choose, not by us. Whoever operates it can see the traffic that goes through it, and in Full mode that is all of your traffic. Their privacy practices are theirs.
7. Keeping and deleting data
- Removing a connection in HomeWire disconnects it, deletes its VPN profile and key from the device, and deletes its settings and activity log.
- You can also remove the VPN profile in iOS: Settings, General, VPN & Device Management, VPN.
- Deleting the app removes its settings and activity log. iOS can keep keychain items after an app is deleted, so remove each connection in HomeWire first if you want its key deleted too.
- Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete, correct or hand over. If you think we do, write to us and we will check.
8. This website
homewire.app has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts (it remembers a light or dark choice in your browser only if you pick one), and it does not load fonts, images or code from other websites. Like any website, the company that hosts it keeps standard server logs (the page requested, the time and the visitor's IP address) to run and secure the service. We do not use them to identify or track visitors.
9. If you email us
If you write to support@homewire.app, we receive your email address and what you send. We use it only to reply and to improve the app, and we do not share it. Please do not include keys or full configuration files in an email.
10. Children
HomeWire is not aimed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children.
11. Changes
If we change this policy we will update it here and change the effective date above. We will not weaken the commitment in section 3.
